The Viceroy – Bali
I
heard about The Viceroy for the first time probably 5 years ago when I saw a photo of a gorgeous swimming pool next to a stunning valley of palm trees… it was love at first sight, and since then, The Viceroy was on my bucket list.
It was pretty special the feeling when I arrived here. The Viceroy Bali, a Small Luxury Hotel, is a one-off, a family-owned hotel, a rarity at the high end of the resort market. Owned and operated by a lovely Australian family this luxury villa resort is one of the most famous and luxurious hotels in the world.
The resort is located on a hillside overlooking the lush Lembah Valley, 10 minutes drive from the center of Ubud. Hotel offers transfers to the centre – an easy way to get around. After a quick check in I stepped into the garden where you have the main infinitive pool featuring a swim up bar literally hanging on one side of the Petanu River valley. At the poolside is a traditional Balinese balé (gazebo) with romantic soft white cushions and curtains perfect for a cocktail, a book, or a nap. The views are beyond gorgeous… from here you have a great panoramic of the 25 luxury pool villas.
The resort is 15 years old however the owners are constantly updating the villas. The villas are tiered over three levels looking over a lush, green valley below. We stayed in a Deluxe Terrace Villa. The style is pure contemporary-luxe Bali, clean lines and sleek surfaces with traditional furnishings and technological touches like LCD televisions, an espresso machine, full mini bar, and king size bed with lush bedding. The villa is very spacious (150m2) specially the shower. Perhaps more remarkable is the fact that each Villa has a private terrace with an infinity edge pool above the valley. Next to the swimming pool you have a pavilion (Balinese gazebo) overhanging the valley edge, like an outdoor living room with a view, beautiful.
Here you can have a great panoramic bed/pool situation – You could literally stand on the bed and dive into the infinity pool, yes I did that when I woke up in the morning.
After a quick swim, I went to have breakfast at the CasCades Restaurant… between the spa and the main swimming pool, this beautiful spot offers not only stunning views to the valley, but also delicious food in a romantic ambient, the breakfast is à la carte, try the mango mouse/yogurt with muesli, is so delicious that I had to ask for another.
My experience at The Viceroy was great, the resort is beautiful, from the gardens to the room, luxury details are everywhere. Viceroy is a good and well priced resort for couples looking for romance and solitude in the middle of Ubud.
It is a very peaceful resort, offering excellent spacious villas furnished to the highest standard with the latest in technology and comfort. I really recommend you to stay here while staying in Ubud.
